The first step in the installation of the D2 system is the installation of the USBPre digital audio interface. This process is straightforward and typically trouble-free. The two columns of input LED's on the USBPre should flash when the unit powers up. If you only see the POWER LED, the drivers have not installed properly. This only happens in a small percentage of installs, but if it does, you need to reinstall the driver. Note that Windows may say that the driver is installed and the device is working properly, but if you only have the power light on, you need to do a reinstall anyway. This may happen more often non-US installs because some of these versions of Windows XP do not let the user decide to install drivers that are not digially signed.
Plug in USBPre
Put USBPre cdrom in cd drive (if the automatic install window comes up, cancel)
Select Start
Right click "My Computer"
Select Properties
Choose Hardware tab, then Device Manger
Find USBPre under Sound controllers
Right-click on USBPre Microphone Interface
Click on Update Driver
"Update Hardware Wizard" should come up
Select "No, not this time." Click Next.
Choose "Install from a list or specific location"
Click Next
Click "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install"
Click Next
There may be two selections, "USB Audio Device" and "USBPre"
Click on "USBPre"
Click Next
You may get messages about the driver not being digitally signed. Select "Continue Anyway"
When the files have been copied, click "Finish"
If you are prompted to restart your computer, select OK.
The input lights should now flash when the unit is powered on. Select Line 1 input.
