This unique new approach helps to visualize room modes. An array of simple
SPL meters with a visual output allows near-real-time feedback on room modes.
This technology can be a useful complement to the D2 Acoustical Measurement System.
The standard 7x7 array of LASSIE sensors shows SPL at 49 locations simultaneously.
All sensors are calibrated to turn on at the same level and the light output of each
sensor is proportional to the SPL at its location. By sweeping a low frequency sine wave, the
room's modal response can be seen at any desired frequency.
As soon as changes are made to the room, for example, by moving subwoofer position, the
resultant change in low frequency room response can be seen by initiating another sine sweep. A software
based sine wave generator is included.
The included web cam photographs the light output of the sensors and the computer provides a readout
of SPL at each location, as well as color-coded response patterns.
